Joanne's Cross Quilt

Joanne's latest quilt is something completely new. Typically a quilt is made by piecing fabric together to create the design - then the quilt top, batting, and back are quilted together to complete the finished piece. Joanne decided to try something different. She has been beading and embellishing crosses that she then quilts into individual finished pieces. Her plan is to later sew all the individual quilted crosses into an open lattice work to create one large cross.

We have recently been awarded a grant from Animoto which will enable our artists to create video and slideshows for online viewing and for DVD. Gail has been working on putting her portfolio together - so here is a first version of her slideshow.

Joanne won 2nd place for her quilt that was displayed at the Fine Art Exhibit held at the Smith-Trahern Mansion - just outside Nashville, Tennessee earlier this month. Joanne's quilt was shown along side the work of more than 100 other artists.

We have an immediate need for art supplies.

If you have art supplies to donate, please contact us.

We are in the process of moving into a larger space, just down the hall from our current studio space. Soon, we will have two adjoining rooms - one for the sewing studio and the other for the art studio. This will give us the room to accommodate more special needs artists in our program. With more room to create in and more artists working in the studio, we have an immediate need for art supplies. Whether you choose to donate supplies or make a financial contribution, donations to Inklude Studio are tax deductible to the extent provided by law. Gettin' Down to Business

Everyone in the studio has been working hard, and well... we'll admit it - we've been having a lot of fun too. We've been drawing, dyeing, and sewing -
Elvis has hair! Joanne has been working on Elvis for weeks, and finally his hairline is showing.

but now we think it's time to get down to business and start adding new items to our online store.

Our artists have been photographing items and writing descriptions.

Be Inkluded

We would like to announce our enhanced Internship Program, called Be Inkluded.

This program takes our standard internship/volunteer program a step further, by providing undergraduate and graduate students partial DSP (Direct Service Provider) training. DSP training offers students specialized instruction in professional practices for working with individuals with special needs.

Students can apply for this program as either a Visual Arts Facilitator or Textile Arts Facilitator.

As a Visual Arts Facilitator, students will work directly with artists with developmental disabilities to create artwork for upcoming exhibitions. This position is ideal for students with experience in studio art, illustration, design, art therapy, or art education.
Duties include: assisting the artists in our studio in developing and completing their art projects, encouraging them to explore a wide range of art making materials and processes, and assisting in preparing artwork for exhibition.

As a Textile Arts Facilitator, students will work directly with artists with

developmental disabilities to create unique hand-made items for retail sale. This position is ideal for students with intermediate to advanced sewing and pattern-making skills, experience in textile design, fashion design, quilting, fiber arts, or other related skills. Duties include: assisting the artists in our studio in developing patterns and product samples, encouraging them to explore a wide range of materials and techniques, and assisting them in completing their projects and sewing finished pieces for retail.

Bobby's Ottoman - Redesign Project

Bobby has been commissioned to redesign an ottoman. Below, he describes his progress so far. We will be documenting this project from start to finish. You can see more sketches and watch this project as it progresses in the portfolio section.

Sew Busy

The sewing studio has been buzzing with activity. Two of our new artists,
JoAnne and Gail have been sew busy.

Joanne has just finished her first quilt and is developing sketches for her next one.

Gail is working on a series of pillows with animals as her theme.

New and Improved

There have been several changes here at the studio recently. We have carved out some additional studio space for ourselves, and several new artists have joined the program. Thanks to a generous donation from Mrs. B, we have been able to purchase new sewing equipment. We would like to thank quiltfabric.com for helping us to choose the perfect sewing machines. We love the new felting/embellishing machine too!

We'd also like to thank Tricon Industries, Inc. for donating drafting tables.
New studio space + new artists + new equipment means new artwork will be added to our portfolio soon...and new items will be available for sale.

We say goodbye to one of our first print editions. The shredded paper/paper clips design is all sewn up. The final yardage was used to create this Asymmetrical Shoulder Satchel by special request for one of our customers. If you would like to commission artwork or a custom project, please contact us.
